For J-Flex’s MD, John Kirk there is one very special genre; Soul Music. John grew up close to where the J-Flex offices are in Retford and was fortunate enough to experience the delight of a music venue called The Broken Wheel. During John’s formative years, he got to see first-hand some true legends of Soul Music including Edwin Star, Percy Sledge and Ben E. King.
John has never forgotten those fabulous evenings, the fantastic music and the great people. Over the past 47 years, John has been involved in documenting those great times and has created a labour of love; recording tracks from original 60’s 7 inch records onto a 5 CD collection of 60’s Soul Music’s most popular tracks!
The Fabulous Four Tops were one of soul music’s most popular vocal groups. Best remembered for a host of hits they made out of Tamla Motown in the sixties.
You now have the chance to join in the fun and to win a copy of the 5 CD collection… so how much do you like Soul Music?
The Four Tops Riddle
The Four Tops has a concert that starts in 17 minutes and they must all cross a bridge to get there. All four men begin on the same side of the bridge. You must help them across to the other side in under or at 17 minutes. It is night. There is one flashlight. A maximum of two people can cross at one time. Any party who crosses, either 1 or 2 people, must have the flashlight with them. The flashlight must be walked back and forth; it cannot be thrown, etc. Each band member walks at a different speed. A pair must walk together at the rate of the slower man’s pace:
= Levi: 1 minute to cross
= Duke: 2 minutes to cross
= Lawrence: 5 minutes to cross
= Obie: 10 minutes to cross
For example: if Levi and Obie walk across first, 10 minutes have elapsed when they get to the other side of the bridge. Obie then returns with the flashlight, a total of 20 minutes has passed and you have failed the mission. There is no trick behind this. It is simple movement of resources in the appropriate order. There are two known answers to this problem. This is based on a question Microsoft used to give to all prospective employees.
Note: Microsoft expects you to answer this question in less than 5 minutes!
For the first 10 correct answers we receive emailed to Denise Parkinson; email@example.com we will send you an exclusive 5 CD collection of 60’s Soul Music’s most popular tracks… 121 tracks in total! Many of which in the 70’s gave rise to the name “Northern Soul”.
The winners will be announced in the next email newsletter.
